As members of DECA's Class of 2021 begin to embark on a new chapter, they look back on the past four years of hard work, perseverance and resilience. Check out the top five tips graduating seniors have for rising high school students!

1. Take Risks

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Taking risks will allow you to open yourself to new, unforeseen opportunities. It can be easy to shy away from opportunities because you are afraid of failure. However, with a quick perspective shift, a failure can be seen as a positive experience—one that you can learn from.

2. Surround Yourself With People Who Inspire You

Your friends and peers have the power to influence the way you think. By surrounding yourself with people who inspire you, you will constantly be in an environment that is empowering. You provide yourself the opportunity to learn from your peers and engage in meaningful conversations that positively impact everyone involved.

3. Be Proactive

Stressful situations often arise because of procrastination. However,  taking small steps to be proactive about your tasks will allow you to enjoy the process, rather than scrambling to finish at the last minute. By being proactive, you allow yourself to calmly approach the task at hand–whether it’s school, work or DECA-related!

4. Prioritize

The best way to stay organized is by understanding what to prioritize. At times this might be self-care or family/friends or schoolwork. While it varies by situation, it is always important to understand what task must be prioritized in times of high stress.

5. Be Yourself

At times it can be easy to do something just because everyone else is doing it. However, is it truly what you want to do? Do something because it’s what YOU want to do. If you follow this simple motto, you will find that you will truly enjoy what you are doing. Be yourself–there’s only one you.
