You are to assume the role of the director of human resources at the regional headquarters of First Trust Bank. The vice president wants your input on improving organizational culture and development with a team that includes four generations.
First Trust Bank has 100 employees that work at the regional headquarters. There are employees that fall into baby boomer, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z. The vice president feels that having a multi-generational team is a benefit; however, the culture is not demonstrating that sentiment.
Employees at First Trust Bank routinely convene within their generation, which unfortunately has created a negative culture. Employees are critical of those not in their generation and are not as friendly. When a birthday is celebrated with cake in the break room, employees of the same generation sit together to converse rather than mingle amongst the staff. Employees are less patient with other generations and oftentimes place blame for mishaps on other generational employee groups.
The vice president wants you to help in changing employee attitudes about age diversity. The vice president wants you to suggest ways for employees of various ages to engage and interact that will foster positive working relationships. The vice president wants you to explain how and why the ideas will be effective.
