Sports and Entertainment Marketing

You are the promotional director for Roundtree, a podcast network that ranks third in podcast publishing. Currently, the most popular podcast published by Roundtree is Interesting.

Interesting is an hour-long podcast hosted by three celebrities. The hosts have two or three guests on the podcast each week that share interesting facts and/or stories. The podcast guests vary from other celebrities to everyday people. The three Interesting hosts are a 25-year-old female pop star, a 62-year-old female former television talk show host and a 45-year-old male athlete. The hosts each have their own expertise in their industries and have natural curiosities to learn new things.

Roundtree has won several awards in the podcast industry, but the most awards have been for Interesting. Interesting has become the most popular podcast on several platforms. It was decided that Interesting would embark on a six city live tour. The hosts will travel to three cities in the USA and three cities in Canada and record the podcast in front of a live audience. Guests will still be a range of celebrities and non-celebrities and will also be live on stage.

Roundtree began selling tickets to the live shows a month ago. Tickets range in price based on venue and seating, but average $35.00 - $200.00 per ticket. Unfortunately, ticket sales are sluggish and all six venues on the tour have close to 40% of seats still available.

The president of Roundtree wants your team to create a promotional plan to sell-out the remaining Interesting podcast live tour tickets. The president wants your promotional plan to:

  • Include activities in the promotional mix
  • Use effective communications channels
  • Identify how the Interesting hosts can boost ticket sales
  • Explain marketing factors that will encourage ticket sales
