When I started my journey at High Plains Technology Center, I never imagined the path ahead of me in DECA. Like many students, I joined to develop my skills and connect with others. What I didn’t expect was how this organization would shape my future and allow me to serve as Oklahoma Collegiate DECA’s State President.

It all began when my advisor, Mrs. McDowell, mentioned something that sparked my curiosity: I could run for a state office. At first, the idea seemed daunting, but with her encouragement, I decided to leap. In November, I submitted my application. Knowing I was stepping into a new challenge was both exciting and nerve-wracking.

In December, I attended the state officer screening, where I was interviewed to demonstrate my leadership potential and passion for DECA. When I passed the screening, I felt a mix of relief and joy, knowing I’d be running for office.

Then came February, and with it came the Oklahoma DECA Career Development Conference (CDC). Standing in front of an audience to deliver my officer speech was a dreamlike moment. I was nervous but determined to share my vision for Collegiate DECA and how I wanted to inspire others to grow through this incredible organization. I was in shock when my name was called during the awards session as the new Oklahoma Collegiate DECA State President. It felt like a dream come true, a testament to the hard work, support and belief of those around me.

Since then, the journey has been nothing short of incredible. I’ve attended the Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), where I connected with members and dove deeper into what it means to lead and serve. Now I’m preparing for CDC 2025, eager to meet more members and witness their growth as they compete, collaborate and thrive.

Being a state officer has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It’s shown me the power of stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing new opportunities. I encourage anyone considering a leadership role to take that leap—you never know how far it will take you.

As I continue this journey, my focus remains on empowering our members and ensuring Collegiate DECA in Oklahoma continues to thrive. To my fellow members, thank you for inspiring me every day. Together, we are shaping the future, one step at a time.
