How to Enjoy the Fun Aspect of Collegiate DECA

Dec 1, 2024

As we head towards the end of the 2024 year, the school break season is right around the corner. While being a productive student is great, there are times when even Collegiate DECA members need to relax. Outside of general meetings, workshops and competition preparation, here are multiple ways to enjoy your time as a member.

Social Events

One way to create a nice buffer between events is to host a casual activity or social gathering where members can come together. The type of event may vary based on your members' preferences. Some might prefer a potluck because they love food, while others might prefer bringing card and board games for everyone to enjoy. The goal is to see members laugh and reduce any nervousness between them. Some Collegiate DECA chapters may even organize a joint social to bring students from different organizations together.

Volunteering Together

With “Community-oriented” as one of DECA’s core values, volunteering within your local community is essential. However, no one ever said that it couldn’t be fun. Whether assisting in organizing an event or educating the younger generation, you can add a fun twist to your tasks when appropriate. For example, if you are assigned to teach high school students about a certain topic, incorporate engaging elements into your presentation. Making your experience enjoyable rather than a chore ensures a good time for everyone and creates potential networking with future partners.

Create Online DECA Content

Engaging online with various DECA members can be a great learning experience. Collegiate DECA, chapter and association accounts usually showcase updates and recaps of different events. Mixing these with fun video trends can be fun to create and give your audience a nice laugh to share worldwide. Bringing out your personality through online content is another avenue of networking with members enjoyably during or outside of conferences. The best part is that this can lead to online collaborations, bringing even more members together to learn something new or have a good time.

There are many ways to have fun as a Collegiate DECA member, both in-person and online. If you don’t know where to start, try discussing with your members what everyone enjoys doing.
