Planning Fall 2024 Recruitment

Aug 1, 2024

As the academic year kicks off and recruitment events begin for the fall semester, it is important to outline your chapter's recruitment plan and strategy. Here are some things to consider as the semester quickly approaches.

1. Offer Incentives

It is always a highlight at recruitment events if your chapter can provide perks for new members, such as DECA-branded merchandise. Not only does this excite new members about our organization's possibilities, but it also allows them to showcase the opportunities we offer throughout your campus. For returning members, your chapter may consider a referral program where members can receive prizes for assisting in recruitment efforts.

2. Host Interactive Events

While the summer is wrapping up, make sure your leadership plan for the year includes events that will appeal to all types of potential Collegiate DECA members, including guest speakers, workshops, collaborative meetings with other organizations or even alumni panels. These events serve not only to attract new members but also to showcase the true value that DECA holds.

Additionally, you may choose to hold an event that offers incentives for attendance to boost recruitment even further. This could include a raffle or progress towards an achievement in an award program such as the Leadership Passport.

3. Partner with Your Institution

Working with others at your institution to spread the word about your chapter on campus is another great way to get your message out. One of the ways this can be done is by working with professors. Professors are often willing to post announcements and may allow you to come and speak to their class if time allows. It is also valuable to contact your university's career center. Valuable experiences for members could include collaborative workshops, internship and job opportunities, and even the ability to host a campus-wide career fair. Lastly, you may consider partnering with your business department. Not only does this provide mentorship opportunities for your members, but it also allows your chapter to work on integrated curriculum projects for business courses offered at your institution.
