One amazing aspect of DECA is how we support many causes that positively impact the community and help change the course of people's lives. Stacy Brennan is a loving wife and mother, who was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2007 and metastatic cancer in October 2012. Unfortunately, she is still battling today. In recent years, DECA and students in Marketing III have prioritized supporting this cause by raising money for breast cancer awareness and research with the slogan, “Stronger Together.” This money is donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, which tremendously impacts many lives.
This year, with the help of our amazing Marketing III teacher and DECA advisor Lindsay Delucca, seniors Marissa Halpern, Emma Nugent and Emma Denson have worked tirelessly on their project supporting this important cause. They have done a tremendous job by setting up numerous events and fundraisers. First, they sold merchandise, including shirts and sweatshirts with the Stacy’s Warriors logo and slogan Stronger Together. In addition, they had a very successful fundraiser at Family Bagel where they raised $3,200 that was generously donated to the cause through sales and a variety of enticing raffle prizes, many of which were donated from local businesses. In addition, they continued to support this cause through an in-school pink bagel fundraiser, a Catch the Wave Fundraiser, a booth at homecoming and an awareness week as well. After all this hard work, they presented a check for $9,000 to Stacy at Plainview’s annual Coach’s Vs. Cancer at an upcoming football game.
