SBE Tips & Tricks for Success

Sep 1, 2024

School is starting, so it’s officially time to open your SBE. This article details three tips and tricks to keep your SBE running smoothly throughout the year!

But wait… what even is an SBE? An SBE (school-based enterprise) is a hands-on learning opportunity for students. Students can manage and operate a retail or food operations enterprise where they learn real-world lessons that integrate into the curriculum. An SBE is always a great addition to any school, selling anything from spirit wear to food items.

1. Study your Target Market

Look at the demographic your SBE will be marketing to. High school students tend to have pretty similar likes and dislikes as far as fashion or food go. Whether your SBE is retail or food service, make sure what you sell sells!

2. Stay Proactive

Try your best to identify problems before they happen. Stopping an issue in advance can help to minimize the impact. This can come in a variety of forms when running an SBE. Some examples include staying stocked, taking customer feedback, cleaning after every open shift and running a threat assessment on your SBE.

3. Know your Stuff

Keep track of EVERYTHING. From vendors to sales, many numbers are involved in an SBE. The more you know about the ins and outs of your SBE, the easier it will be to write your paper. Do your best to be the expert on your project so that you know what you’re talking about when your competition time comes.

Well, there you have it! You are now three bullet points wiser in the world of SBE. Take your learning to the next level in an amazing hands-on learning laboratory. We wish you the best of luck!
