The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay hosted a Northern Wisconsin Regional Conference for the first time in November. The idea was first brought up by the Fox Valley Technical College chapter advisors in Appleton, WI and then set up at the UW-Green Bay campus on November 12, 2022. There was a total of 70 attendees that included competitors, judges, alumni, students and guest speakers. This event was very successful in getting more universities and technical colleges to learn more about DECA and preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for competitive events at the association level and ICDC.
The first keynote speaker was Dr. Preston Cherry from UW-Green Bay who spoke about Life, Money & Balance and the importance of financial wellness as an entrepreneur. The second keynote speaker was Tara Carr from the Small Business Development Center at UW-Green Bay. She spoke about what the Small Business Development Center does as well as the growing demographics of the future communities relevant to a business leader. There were also some breakout sessions on top of the competitions which included topics such as: Managing Your Money, Growing as a Leader and Effective Public-Speaking.
“I want to thank all the speakers, judges and university & technical collegiate students that made this conference a success. Collegiate DECA is grateful for the Cofrin School of Business to sponsor the event and will continue to in the future.”- Tyler Priebe, UWGB Collegiate DECA Chapter President.
The schools in attendance were: University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Fox Valley Technical College, Waukesha County Technical College, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and Nicolet College. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered their time at the event.
