Winter break is almost here! This is one of the few moments every student gets to chill out. By structuring your time off, you can set yourself up for success in the new year and give yourself the break you deserve.
Setting Your Priorities
Let’s be real. You won’t be able to work 9 to 5 every day, finish ten projects and get ahead on all your work before heading back to school, but you can be productive.
Pick 3 action items you need to complete during the break. These should not be 5-minute activities but something that takes a couple of hours. Break them into two parts by finding a midpoint to stop. Set the times to work on them spread shorter intervals over multiple days, work around vacation and avoid compromising sleep.
If you follow this, completing your work with minimal stress should be easy.
Reflect on the Past, Look to the Future
You should be reflecting on what went well so far… or what didn’t.
If you’re doing well in a class, consider the strategies to maintain consistency. If you’re not doing too well in another, switch up your study method or head to YouTube to build foundational knowledge about the subjects.
Chapter officers should evaluate members to see if they have the skills for competition or what needs to be done in the coming months to prepare them.
Spend Some Time on DECA
Spending a little time on your DECA work could go a long way.
On a long road trip or waiting at the airport? Go over some flashcards or watch a sample event on DECA+. Take a few minutes to fix grammar in a prepared event. You can go further and plan how you will prepare in the next few months for competition at association conferences. Some of you may be considering or planning a campaign for association office, so it might be wise to work in some preparation time.
Just Chill Out
This time of year can be very intense and may get even more stressful in the coming months. You must work in time to just relax. It could be spending time with friends or enjoying time alone to decompress. Hard work pays off, but taking care of yourself does too!
